If your hardwood floor has scratches that aren’t very deep, you might be surprised by how easy they are to fix. A few light scratches can be easily patched up without having to completely refinish the floor or hire a professional. In fact, you can do it yourself with just a few cheap supplies and an hour or so to spare. Simply follow these steps, and the floor will be as good as new in no time.


Step 1: Purchase a finish. If you’re just going to be fixing a few light scratches, then you’ll need no more than the smallest sized can at the store. It may be either water- or oil-based. If you’re using water-based finish, get a very fine-grain sandpaper. For an oil-based finish, use very fine steel wool or a fine sandpaper.
