Hardwood flooring is undoubtedly one of the more difficult types of flooring to install, which is why many homeowners rely upon contractors to perform this task for them. However, if you’re feeling brave and have a good deal of experience with construction, you can probably do it yourself. Here are the general steps to follow.
Step 1: Measure the length of the room parallel with the floor joints, and subtract about an inch. This is the length of floorboards that you’ll want to purchase. Next, go to the hardware store and choose a type of floorboard that looks good. Be sure to get a few more boards than what you think you need.
Step 2: Pull up any carpet that you have on the floor, and remove any associated stapes. Use a solvent to get rid of any residue from the carpet adhesive, and sweep to get rid of any dust that is remaining.
