When hanging things on the wall, your mounting mechanism is only as strong as the material it’s mounted on. If you hang a picture on thin drywall or plaster with nothing more substantial to anchor it, then there’s a much greater risk that the picture will eventually fall down or even cause significant damage to the wall. Thus, hanging heavy objects isn’t like hanging light things. You can’t just drive a couple of nails in the wall and expect it to work. You have to be a little more careful. Here’s what to do.
Step 1: First, you’re going to have to try to locate a stud in the wall. You can do this either by using a stud finder or by knocking against the wall to locate a spot that is obviously more solid than the rest.
