Painting a wall is a relatively simple process that is easy to master once you do it a few times. However, although it’s usually pretty easy, there are certain issues that can arise to make routine painting a little more difficult. For example, if you have a wall that is painted a dark color—say, navy blue or burgundy—and you want to cover it up with white or another lighter shade, painting isn’t so simple. Once you start applying that first layer, you’ll notice that the underlying darker color really comes through and creates a severely blotchy appearance.

This problem can be prevented, of course, but it requires more work than a typical paint job, and the room that you’re painting is probably going to be out of commission for a while.

The first thing you want to do is make sure that you have enough paint to cover all the walls. If you know how much paint to buy for a standard painting job, then you may want to double the usual amount. When it comes to this job, you’re going to be applying multiple layers, and then you’ll need additional paint to cover up any spots that still don’t look right, so make sure you have enough paint to cover all of this.
