Every handy homeowner needs a tool shed, especially if you don’t have a lot of space in your garage or basement to work. But having a toolshed has advantages even when you do have space elsewhere. For one thing, it can be built outside of the home, which is good for safety reasons and it also cuts down on noise and pollution (from dust emitted by your work) within the home. Plus, an external toolshed can be locked so that no kids can get in.


Tool sheds don’t need to be built as sturdily as other structures. Of course, you can go all out and make yourself a fancy toolshed if that’s what you want, but if you just need something simple, here’s what to do.

Step 1: Determine how much space you need, give yourself a little extra, and then measure out a piece of flat land in your yard where the shed won’t get in the way or obstruct views.
