In these tough economic times, we’re all looking for ways to cut a few bucks out of our budget here and there. And since utility bills seem perpetually to rise higher and higher, this is one area where it’s always a good idea to try to cut costs. It can be challenging, however, as there is a certain amount of power that we need to use every day, and it’s not easy to find ways to cut power use without negatively affecting our quality of life. But no matter what power-saving measures you’re already using, there’s no doubt that you can still go lower. Here are some ideas for reducing the cost of energy use in your home.


Air conditioning efficiency: If you’re using window AC units, make sure that the size of your unit fits with the size of your room. Using a too-large AC unit wastes energy and does a poor job of removing humidity. Also, be sure to keep your AC clean by washing or replacing the air filters every month. Since the dust that gathers in the filter reduces air flow, this makes the unit have to work harder to achieve the same effect.
