The phone system is a little more complicated than the electrical system, and it’s not as if you can just shut it off as you perform your maintenance. But the good news is that phone lines aren’t as dangerous as electrical wires, and they’re actually pretty easy to work with. If you’re interested in installing a second phone line in your home, here are the steps to follow.


Step 1: Contact your local phone company and request to have a second line added to your account. You’ll probably have to wait for a phone company employee to come out and activate the service on the outside of your home. After this happens, you’re ready to begin installing your new line.
