When a door becomes difficult to close, it’s usually due to one of a very few reasons—namely, either 1) the hinges have become misaligned, or 2) the door itself has become warped. The first problem is easy to fix, while the second one is a little more challenging.
If you have a door that can’t be closed without slamming it, the first thing to do is evaluate what exactly is going wrong. First, take a close look at the hinges. Are they rusty or loose? Do they creak when you open and shut the door? Can you tell on sight that one or both of them are out of alignment?
If there are no obvious problems with the hinges, look closely at the door. Does it appear to be bent? Is it simply very old? If the answer to either of these questions is yes, then it may be warped.
