Installing skylights is no easy job, but if you have a good amount of experience with home improvement tasks, you should be able to do it yourself. But if you’re not good with heavy duty tools, then this job might not be right for you. Keep in mind that your roof is an essential part of your home’s structure, so it’s important that the person working on it knows what he or she is doing. With that being said, if you’re ready to install a skylight yourself, here’s what to do.


1. Choose your skylight: It’s best to pick one that is both easy to install and seals the roof securely so that no air gets in or out.

2. Mark the location: Using proper safety practices, climb a ladder in the room where you want the skylight, hold it up to the ceiling and draw an outline around it. Then, measure to the center of the outline and drill a hole to the outside. Run a wire hanger through the hole to mark its location.
